Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of energy and ready to learn despite the many challenges that many face. Most come from low social economic families and we are a tittle 1 school. We have about 125 3rd grade students this year, most of which are on free or reduced lunch.
Many of our students this year were affected by hurricane Harvey.
Despite that many come into school each and every day with smiling faces and an eager to learn. They are critical thinkers and inovaters.
My Project
I teach third graders in English and in Spanish. Most of our students are on free or reduce lunch. Access at home to books is little or non existent. The biggest hurdle we have at school is being able to have enough good non-fictions books in Spanish for our students to enjoy reading and practice all the skills that we are teaching them.
We are trying to instill a LOVE for reading in both languages.
With your help, I will able to have a wider selection of those great non-fiction titles for my students in Spanish. Being bi-literate will open many doors for them in their future.
