Spanish Library Books for Hispanic Children to Enjoy

My Hispanic students need 27 Spanish library titles, including "Gran Granero Rojo (Big Red Barn)", "El pez arco iris y la balena azul (Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale)" and "Buenas Noches, Luna (Goodnight Moon)".

I am the librarian for three public pre-schools for at risk students in a low income area of North Carolina. One of our libraries serves almost 150 at risk four year olds, a third of whom are Hispanic. Many of these children are just learning English and their families cannot read English books to them. It is so important for young children to have stories read to them. It helps them develop language and is a good foundation for teaching them to read.

We have very few Spanish language books in our collection. Many of the books we have are old and in disrepair. Due to current budgetary restraints, we cannot add to our Spanish collection as we would like to.

I would like to add some good story books to our Spanish collection. With these new books, our 50 or so Hispanic students would have a good selection of books to borrow for their families to read to them. By having Spanish/English books for our Hispanic students, the parents can also increase their knowledge of English.

With your help, we can provide a wonderful collection of story books for our Hispanic students and their families to enjoy. This will help them develop a lifelong love of books and learning.
