Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in the historic Junius Heights neighborhood of East Dallas. Our students are hard working, collaborative, and dedicated. They truly love school and desire to succeed! However, some of our students would benefit from a systematic and intentional small group reading program that is more individualized.
Many students need a structured program utilizing a trusted resource to close academic gaps in foundational reading skills!
By implementing a program such as Leveled Literacy intervention, we could make a powerful mark on student success. This program would allow us to focus on prevention of reading deficits in the early grades rather than waiting to provide reading interventions in the upper grades. It’s our key to getting helping student’s find academic success in a powerful and meaningful way as early as possible!
My Project
These Spanish leveled reading kits would help close the gaps for our Spanish speaking students and our Spanish immersion classes. A research based guided reading library is foundational for all classrooms. This resource would be available to all of our Spanish speaking students as well as our Dual Language classes.
Spanish teachers are always looking for authentic and meaningful texts to share with their students, particularly differentiated leveled readers.
These resources are invaluable and will be utilized across campus for years to come. With a shortage of these types of resources on our campus, this project would greatly impact our students!
