Our school is an amazing place. Every year, we are among the top 5% of Seattle Schools for student academic growth per student per year. Our students overcome all kinds of obstacles, including poverty, racism, learning English (the majority of our families don't speak English at home). It's an amazing school and I am grateful every day for getting to be a tiny part of it.
I teach beginning middle school Spanish.
This is a high school class and gives students a chance to get started on high school requirements during middle school.
My Project
I'm trying to make Spanish class FUN. Nobody should ever get bored, but I have a huge range of abilities in the class, from kids who have never heard Spanish before to kids who are totally fluent and just need to work on their spelling and formal grammar. Kids work at different paces and sometimes I have kids who finish their assignments early.
I want a variety of fun (but still educational) activities for them to do when they finish their classwork, and that means Spanish language games!
I've found a fun selection of games such as Bilingual Zingo! and Bananagrams that will reinforce vocabulary, get kids using Spanish, and also (hopefully!) keep them engaged and enjoying themselves.
