This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every day, my students enter class ready to acquire Spanish. They grab their folder and we begin with a chant, ¨¡Estamos en la lucha!¨ which means ¨We are in the fight!¨ They are excited and we are organized. We begin our storytelling, reading and writing for the day.
My students are high school teenagers from 14-18 years old on the East Side of Detroit.
They are an energetic group of students who like to have an organized class. They are very particular about their materials and enjoy having consistency. The neighborhood that the school is in has many issues and the students are politically conscious and active. They want to improve their neighborhood and deserve the best class experience I can provide.
My Project
My students will use these folders every day. They keep the folders in the classroom and this is where they produce their work. They write notes, perform writing tasks and keep an archive of assessments. The folders help all of us stay organized because I am able to take the folders home for grading and they are able to have a personal space in the classroom.
My students don´t have much structure in their lives.
Even our school can sometimes be chaotic. My goal is to provide an organized and well executed lesson every day and these folders are crucial to that structure. Thank you for helping me with this basic and fundamental piece to my classroom procedure!
