My Students

Spanish language learners from grades 9-12. We are a semi-rural school district about 30 minutes south of Milwaukee. We are a high school of around 600 students. About half of our students attend a 4 year college after graduation while many other students receive additional education in trade fields. Students in the district have had a strong affinity in learning to speak, comprehend, and write in Spanish as we have some of the highest AP Spanish Language and Culture scores in the state of Wisconsin.

My Project

My students range from Spanish II to AP Spanish students. I am constantly asking them to write in order to improve their Spanish skills. Unfortunately, in today's world students have become too dependent on electronic translating services. When I ask them to write on-demand in class, they are required to write on paper without the use of electronic translating.

Providing paper copies of Spanish-English dictionaries allows them the help they need to improve their writing but it also ensures that their work is their own.

They are unable to rely on a computer to translate for them so they work hard to learn the skills necessary to improve their work. A new set of hardcover classroom dictionaries will be used for many years to come as we do our writing in the classroom.
