Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of students with little access to diverse books for their own personal Libraries. They get very excited when I give them the opportunity to receive free books to keep at my Free Book Fairs. It warms my heart when they exclaim, "This was the book I was looking for I can't believe it's here."

My Project

I offer my students free book fairs to create their own home libraries as their families cannot afford to buy books. Imagine moving to a new country and not understanding anything you try to read and no one else looks like you. I use many donated sources but cannot find books in Spanish for my large population of Spanish speaking students many of which don’t know any English at all. Even harder is to find diverse titles in Spanish. This project is to give my Spanish students titles written in their language by authors that are Spanish and give voice to their diversity.
