Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students strive to be the first in their families to attend a four year college or university! They come from low income families from across 41 zip codes in San Diego. Students at We take Spanish all the way through the AP Spanish Language and Culture course and many successfully pass the AP test!
Due to economic circumstances, however, students do not always have access to basic classroom supplies.
As we continue to empower our students in a high rigor environment, it is essential for them to not feel limited by what they do not have.
My Project
My students come from all across San Diego and need to be ready to access an intellectually rigorous Advanced Placement curriculum. For many of my students, due to their economic situation, access to basic supplies is a barrier.
The products that I have selected will help my students stay organized.
The AP classes required so much material to cover that sometimes is overwhelming for students. By having binders, dividers and notebooks as part of their essential materials, students will stay organized. In addition, the usage of red pens, highlighters, and note cards will help them identify individualized content material that they need to improved.
The usage of highlighters will facilitate their reading comprehension and identify key terms as they read. In addition, they will use the note cards to create study materials throughout the year. The one hour bus ride that the students need to take to get to campus every day is a little easier when they know they have the materials that they need, and they can usage them as a strategy to understand content. For my students, these supplies means a good start to a long year.
