Spanish Class Needs To Play With Their Food To Learn
My students need plastic food items so that we can review vocabulary with something they can touch and see. We will use them in restaurant, grocery store, and dinner skits. Real world experiences.
I teach elementary Spanish to Kindergarten through 5th grade. Next year we are moving up to 6th grade. I teach them about the different cultures that speak Spanish and also basic vocabulary. They love when they can relate to the information.
Kids like to play and they learn while they play.
I love watching them help eachother out during a game with pronunciation. They get out of their seats to play and are genuinely engaged in the project. They are always asking me to create new games so they can practice the vocabulary.
I love seeing their smiles as they are working together to learn something difficult.
My Project
The different types of plastic food will help us sort them into color groups and also will provide a tangible item for them to identify when we review vocabulary. I picked several different food bags because I want to have enough variety and several of one item because my class sizes are so big.
The grocery baskets will help when we do grocery store skits where they can independently grab what they need when they are shopping.
The plastic tote will make it easier to store them when we aren't using it and the kids will know where they go when we are done with class. Routine is everything.
