Spanish Chapter Books a Great Start for Lifelong Readers
My students need class sets of Spanish chapter books - I have chosen Charlotte's Web and Leonardo da Vinci to introduce them to classic literature and biography genres.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 3rd grade classroom is full of enthusiastic readers discovering the joy of learning - they are readers who are just discovering the power and joy that life long reading will bring to them. They are discovering chapter books that gives them more substance - greater vocabulary, bigger ideas.
They are bilingual scholars who are developing their English and Spanish at the same time.
Finding good chapter books that are at their level is hard and finding them in Spanish is even harder and very expensive. Our school, scholars and their families cannot afford to purchase this books.
My Project
Reading Club is a teaching tool for me because I can guide their reading and help them manage text that is more challenging and that they might give up if they are doing it alone. Over the years I have learned that evolving readers are eager to read more complex text, with challenging plots and characters - but like everything else they still require guidance. When everyone is doing together sharing ideas, feelings and concepts becomes more fun and less frightening for those who need more support. Setting every scholars with the tools and confidence to become lifelong independent readers and learners.
I have chosen two different books - a children's literature classic "Charlotte's Web" and the biography of "Leonardo da Vinci".
Two very different books that will expose my scholars to literature that otherwise they might not have tried on their own. Reading complex text in Spanish sets a precedent for them that bilingual and multiculturalism is an important part of their success and identity.
