Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, energetic, eager third graders. The majority of them live in the same neighborhood of Boston as they attend school, which allows for an involved parent population. Many of the families speak spanish as a first language or are bilingual in both spanish and english. To foster and support bilingualism, the school has a dual-language program. My students have been learning in english and spanish since kindergarten. Due to this program they not only speak both languages, but are literate in both as well!
My Project
My students are part of a dual-language program at our school. I would love to have a rich Spanish language library with books to capture their interest and make them excited to read. They will use these books for independent reading. Having a variety of genres from which to choose will ensure that each child finds their literary best friend and explore new worlds.
The Magic Treehouse and Judy Moody series are particular favorites of third graders.
They also love any and all animal books. The nonfiction collection provides a plethora of books on animals, including insects, sea creatures, and deadly predators.
