My Kindergarten students are fun, loving, hard-working kids! They are in a Two-Way Dual Language program. This program, although, new to the district this year, has existed for many years and is used across the country. In this setting, students spend half their day with my partner teacher, who instructs in English World (only speaks English) and other half of the day with me in Spanish World (only speaking Spanish). Some of my students are native Spanish speakers and some are native English speakers. The goal of the program is for students to be bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural by the time they leave elementary school.
It is very heartwarming to see how they learn and grow with each other, and how they help and support each other.
My students are learning content in both Spanish and English, overcoming challenges, making memories, and enjoying the experience.
My Dual Language students need Spanish books for our classroom library. We have limited Spanish books since it’s the first year we are implementing the Dual Language program. With more Spanish books, we will be able to practice reading in Spanish and strengthen our skills to grow stronger in literacy.
These books will be used as resources intended for read alouds, independent reading, and centers.
Each book chosen has a purpose- whether it’s because they are topics my students enjoy or they are topics we cover throughout the school year.
There is a lack of Spanish materials online and it would be very beneficial to have books right at our fingertips to enjoy in many ways! Help us get more books in our classroom library, benefit my students’ bilingual brain, and invest in their future.
