Beginning our new year on a different campus, the students at EBIA are beyond excited to get new opportunities to take lead of their learning in the classroom. Students come from various portions of Oakland, as well as surrounding towns in the Bay Area.
The students focus on becoming useful members of a technology-based society though community connected projects.
We are a diverse school, both socioeconomically and racially, and embrace those differences in the Spanish classroom.
Specifically in Spanish, students work 90% in the target language, finding meaningful ways to learn about Latin history and culture while also making connections to their own first language and traditions.
By making engaging lessons and projects, we aim to have students learn Spanish in exciting ways.
My Project
For the second unit in Spanish 2 this year, students will be creating Scrapbooks for their families on important memories, utilizing past tense in the Spanish language.
In order to create these scrapbooks, students need these supplies to make their projects look clean, well-crafted, and professional.
These projects will be presented to parents and family members in Spanish, and will be given to parents and guardians as gifts to create a more positive community both inside and outside of school. The students will also be able to use this project as a creative outlet, especially those interested in art.
Students will first write down their favorite memories in Spanish, then interview their family members on their own favorite memories (since their child was born/came into their life). After this, students will create a timeline, and highlight events that will be created, placed, and documented in the scrapbooks we use here. The students will use all materials to homemake their scrapbooks, as well as photos they bring from home. Having these materials provided will allow all students to have equal opportunities to create an impressive and fun scrapbook.
With numerous different color and designs on paper for backdrops, scissors for creating fancy pages, glue dots to insert home photos, relevant newspaper and magazine clippings, and stamps for added creativity, students will utilize all materials in their project. After creating every page with added narration and comments in Spanish, students will put their pages into the blank scrapbooks. We will hold a family appreciation day, where students may share their creations with their family members.
