This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching third grade English as a Second Language is a joy that everyone should experience. Monday through Friday, I have the opportunity to welcome English learners into the classroom where they eagerly participate in every lesson. Our Title 1 school is the largest elementary school in Rhode Island and I have two groups of 25 in my class each day. 100% percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are brand new to the United States or still acclimating to the country after being here for a short time.

My Project

I am requesting a rug for an empty classroom that we utilize for tutoring and enrichment during the day. My students receive specialized ELA and Math interventions from data driven programs. They are removed from my class once a day to work with our classroom helper that administers programs that fully support students and their needs. The classroom that is used only has desks and students often want to move about the room and sit on the floor when given the opportunity to work silently. By having a rug in this room, our learners will be able to gain knowledge in a colorful, clean, and comfortable space.
