My Students

Discussion is a big part of my classroom, which builds a community of respectful and engaged learners. The students in my third grade classroom come from a variety of backgrounds, and each one has unique experiences and background knowledge to add to a class discussion.

As a class, we are constantly building off one another's ideas and encouraging each other to grow their brains.

The best spot to do this is on our classroom rug during class meetings and mini lessons. We are currently in need of a rug big enough to hold all 26+ third graders so we can continue to have these insightful discussions.

My Project

Students will have their own space on the classroom rug, where they can engage in discussions that will enhance their learning. During our carpet time, students are learning from one another through 'turn and talk' and partner/small group discussions. The students are able to share their learning in their own words, teaching other students in the classroom.

I want this to be where we can come together and share thoughts and ideas.

This will also be where we are able to learn! We will have our mini lessons for Math and Reading on the rug, along with our daily classroom meetings. Students will be expected to come to the rug prepared to learn from and teach their peers, which will build a community of engaged learners!
