We are a school located in Florida with a high poverty rate. My students are eclectic and artistic. They are preteens and teens full of ambition and emotions. We are a performing arts school and encourage, teach, and mentor students in the arts in all content areas! I have a lot of kids for whom English is a second language. My students learn best through the arts, music, and physical movement. I teach Earth and space science to one hundred fifty middle school students.
We have families joining our community from Puerto Rico and the South Miami area.
They are recovering and joining family members in our community due to Hurricane Maria or Hurricane Irma. Some of my students now have multiple extended family members living with them.
Your help and support are appreciated on so many levels, by both myself and my students. Many of my students are still struggling to find their new "normal". They are very deserving kids.
My Project
I am requesting a heavy duty pencil sharpener (our classroom one just died), universe bingo, a laser maze, and a gravity maze.
All of the games will support our learning right now!
We are learning about the universe. The gravity maze and laser maze will be a fun way to integrate the themes of light and gravity in a hands-on way.
My students are looking forward to having a working pencil sharpener. It is very difficult for the class to run smoothly without this.
