Help me give my students a dedicated space for guided reading/small group instruction. This Correll Kidney table will provide an area for students to meet with the teacher to work in small groups.
My young learners are just beginning their formal school journey. Tapping into the natural curiosity of these young learners helps us build STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills that will be the foundation for future learning!
My young students are inquisitive and curious.
They are also active learners. We have lots of movement opportunities built into our day. We take brain breaks and encourage activity throughout the day, as it helps these young learners to focus and concentrate.
They are natural learners. My students learn best when they have multiple opportunities to practice what we have been taught through direct instruction in purposeful play activities and learning centers.
A guided reading table would enable my small group direct instruction to flow smoothly, providing a space for us to get together, where everyone can see one another and work together.
My Project
This small group work table will provide a dedicated space for direct instruction with small groups of students. This is a definite need during guided instruction times, such as guided reading. The goal of small group guided instruction is to move students forward from their current instructional level. In kindergarten, the range of instructional levels is large. Having a space to work with small groups is vital to the instructional program.
This small group workspace will help in my classroom with flexible small groups that allow students to work in their zone of proximal development so they can learn exactly what they need to know at their instructional level.
The goal of guided reading is for students to use the strategies taught independently on their way to becoming fluent, skilled readers. Guided math provides a structure for teachers to differentiate instruction so they can reach and teach every student.
This special table will bring my students together as they learn together, introducing new strategies along the exciting path to becoming successful lifelong learners.
