I teach at a K-5 elementary school in rural Alabama. We are a Title l school with high poverty and many Hispanic immigrants with limited English proficiency. Despite these obstacles, my students arrive each day full of life and eager to learn.
Our school is a FAMILY with a heart for the community we serve.
Our classroom community is as varied as the community in which we are located: color, economics, and abilities may be different, however, my expectation for each member is the same: SUCCESS.
My Project
Our classroom is bright and welcoming, however, lack of storage space makes for some challenges. To maximize storage, and maintain organization, I am requesting a mobile student work organizer in which the students will be responsible for placing their work when finished. This will eliminate the multiple trips daily back and forth to put work and papers in their backpacks to take home and save valuable instructional time. The casters will allow me to move the organizer out of the way easily or into position to create different learning zones.
Children need space to MOVE...it's in their nature!
The ceiling projector mount will enable me to remove the cart that currently houses the projector and takes up too much floor space. Removing the cart will open up the classroom and give children space to move easily during transitions, group time, music and dance as well as allowing space for alternative seating work areas for reading, writing or working with math tools.
While these items will not be used directly for instruction, they will indirectly enhance instruction by eliminating obstacles to free traffic flow and movement throughout the classroom.
