My students are brilliant and energetic five and six-year olds! We are a busy classroom consisting of 19 inquisitive and creative minds! My students come to school every day excited to learn. Our classroom is a community based on the values of safety, responsibility and respect. I instruct using a workshop model in math, phonics, reading and writing. A wonderful aspect of the workshop model is to provide the class with a group meeting area. I would love to get a new rug where my class has their own spot to sit and collaborate with other students throughout the day. Kindergartners have a lot of energy and they need a designated safe space they can come together as a community to learn... and get the wiggles out!
My Project
A rug is not just a decoration, but a comfortable place to build our classroom community. This rug will brighten up our classroom and help create a welcoming learning environment that will last for years. A classroom rug is truly the heart of the classroom! This group time rug would help enhance the feeling of community. Every child deserves a space to call his or her own. We can listen to stories, practice our reading/writing/math skills, as well as allow for collaboration amongst each other. A rug would help define my group space and help with classroom management during transitions. A group time carpet is a special place where we bond as a class and where each child learns valuable communication and social skills. This group time rug would be a wonderful and much appreciated addition to my classroom. My students would gain a sense of community and friendship by using this rug!
