Help me give my students read-along kits, each with a different paperback book and a CD that narrates the entire story. Children just listen and follow along with each recording—and build literacy skills and confidence along the way!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is located in the historic Leimert Park area in Los Angeles, California. It is a Title I School, meaning our school serves the highest student concentration of poverty. Our school serves a mainly African-American and Hispanic student population with the majority of students eligible for the federal free and reduced price lunch program, a nationally recognized measure of economic poverty. The way out of poverty is through education.
My students are in desperate need of reading materials.
Please help us by donating reading materials that we will use during Guided Reading Time daily where each student is read with individually. First grade and second grade are the critical grades where students learn to read.
These reading kits will go in the Listening Center, a place that my students really enjoy during Guided Reading Time. Students follow along with beloved stories and captivating texts and gain the confidence they need to become independent readers!
Each read-along kit is designed for students to use on their own, each with a paperback book and a CD that narrates the entire text word for word.

We currently have a small Listening Center with a few titles, but it is important for the students to have more materials so that they will not get bored. Every book and CD that is placed in the Listening Center is treated with love and care, and students are thankful for the opportunities to read. Students will be able to choose from more books, which will help them continue to enjoy the Listening Center during Guided Reading Time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level as books are narrated to them. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
