My students need 35 copies of Nic Stone's Dear Martin for our May Project LIT Bronx community book club. And if all goes well we'll have the opportunity to meet the author in June!

My Students
My students are the best! They are smart, inquisitive, creative, resourceful and kind. They come from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, speak multiple languages and all live in the south Bronx. They are in grades 6-12 at a public middle and high school founded on the belief that our students will become scholar activists who go out and change the world.
Some of them love to read and some of them aren't quite there yet.
(We believe that's because they have yet to find the right book.) This project will get them exposed to rich literature and on track towards loving reading.
My Project
This year our school joined the national #ProjectLITBookClub movement where we come together every month to read and discuss culturally-relevant young adult literature. We created Project LIT Bronx and had our first book club in November of 2017. That book club included middle and high school students and teachers, our local teen librarian, and even an alumni of our school. We've enjoyed reading texts together and are excited about our spring titles.
Our community book club provides a space for students from 6-12th grade to come together with their families, community members, and school staff to read and discuss important issues.
