Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who are requesting this tool are part of my honors Algebra 2 class. They attend a Title 1 school in the Bronx, NY and come from low socioeconomic single-parent families.
Although they don't have a lot of money, they have great hearts and a desire for learning that is unparalleled to anyone I have taught over the last 17 years of teaching. Thank you for your help for them, in advance!
The TIME has changed...Get it? We are asking for a classroom Apple Watch because TIME is changing with new technology that is being developed.
I try to motivate my students by incorporating technology in a meaningful way.
A typical day in my classroom involves surprises and strategies to provide the best educational opportunities for my students. I teach Algebra 2 to GREAT students in a high-poverty neighborhood in Bronx, NYC. They love hands-on, project-based learning, which is exactly what this project would bring to them. The students love to try new things, especially when it comes to learning in an inquiry-based, hands-on way.
In Their Own Words
Apple has changed the way that we students learn. With the creation of the Apple Watch, technology has changed yet again. We are looking to obtain two Apple Watches to increase our understanding of new technology. With the Apple Watch in the classroom, not only will we get to access a piece of technology that we might not otherwise be able to use, but we will be able to conduct experiments in the classroom in a new way. Using the Apple Watch, we will be able to participate in experiments that monitor our heart rates and then do experiments with this data. This data will immediately be transferred to another Apple device for analysis. Also, we will wear the watches for a day and record changes in weather to report back to class.
In creating this project, we will share the Apple watches to compare and contrast heart rates with all the students in our class. We will take leadership of this project so that Ms. Varghese can see how hard we work to bring math to life. She does a great job and this can just make her lessons even better.
This project means a lot to us because it's not something that gets done every day. This project will help us understand that people still care about us, even if we are from the South Bronx. We typically do not get access to this technology and would definitely love to use it! Thank you so much!
