I am a third grade teacher in the South Bronx who wants to take my children on a few end of year trips. The biggest obstacle to overcome at this time of year is the admission fee. Most of my students are from single parent homes on public assistance. They can't afford to send the children on trips because they just don't have the funds. Instead of concentrating on the educational value of a trip many times I concentrate on how much it is and can the students afford it. Sometimes a small fee can't be paid by most of the children and I have to make up the difference or cancel the trip. My school has no music program and only one Art teacher. My class has not had art, music or gym all year. I do my best to supplement this in the classroom when I can. I would like to take the children to the Children's Museum of the Arts for a professional art lesson for 90 minutes. This will help expose them to different art projects and mediums. Thank you for anyone that can help us go on educational trips this year.
