Mrs. Whitley from Bronx NY is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
The cost of a trip to Green Meadows Farm for 26 students and four chaperones is $309, including <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

I am a P.E. /health teacher in the South Bronx. I would love to take my students to the Green Meadows farm for an active day at the farm. These city children need to be exposed to farm animals, hayrides, pumpkin picking, pony rides, and even to be able to milk a cow. Many of the children in the South Bronx never get the opportunity to leave the borough and see the country. We teach them about farm animals, habitats and the way we plant and grow. Often they only see these things in books they read. They see on TV different farms and children picking pumpkins but they never actually see it for themselves. One of the biggest obstacles in our school is the admission fee. Most of our parents are on public assistance so they are not able to afford that fee. They want their children to go and have these experiences but sometimes it's a choice of an essential or a trip. The extras often go by the wayside. I believe a trip such as this shouldn't be missed because of a small admission fee. What a wonderful time for the children to go in the fresh air and get exercise for their body and their mind. For some children this might be the only chance they ever get to go to the farm.
