Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 8th grade math in the Inner Bronx, and too many of my students are far behind their grade level. Our students, however, are very creative. They love to express themselves. Even so, unlike most suburban schools that have access to computers and smart boards, etc., to work out math problems, all we have is an old style chalk board. I want to tap into the students' creativity. By having each student have a dry erase board, I can instantly assess where they are in math. It will help the student have fun in math while at the same time learning how to learn from mistakes. The dry erase boards will drive competition and creativity in the classroom. The first lesson will center on transformations. The need for dry erase boards here is critical. To understand transformations, a student needs to draw and make mistakes. By use of the dry erase boards, students can fix errors quickly while having fun. Thank you.
