My students live in a high poverty community. Coming to school hungry, limited resources at home, and fewer opportunities are some examples of hardships that my students live with everyday. Even against the odds, they come to school excited and ready to learn with smiles on their faces. These talented young people are eager to learn, love new opportunities, helping others and really enjoy attending enhancement classes.
In Mrs. M's music class, we use our creativity, imagination, personal talent, and love for the arts to give back to our community.
The arts give students an opportunity to express themselves and keeps students engaged in their learning. It also give students opportunities to make connections between the arts, their core subjects and life outside of the classroom. It is an honor and joy to watch my students learn and grow everyday through the arts.
My Project
In music class, ukuleles help students bring everything they have learned into this lesson. Students use these instruments to review pitches on the music staff, dynamics, note values, meter, tempo and so much more. I have a goal of beginning a ukulele club and giving students the opportunity to perform for their peers, families and community.
Donations to this project will help students explore their love for music, engage in lessons, find their interests and talents, integrate core subjects into the music curriculum and give students the pure joy of new experiences.
Students can use these instruments to explore their minds, their hearts and express how the feel. This is their opportunity to strengthen their cognitive skills, enhance memory and learning skills, and escape into a fun world of creative thinking.
