My students attend a small school in a rural area in Montana but just off a north/south interstate and 28 miles from the nearest large town. Our entire high school has about 95 students, and I teach English to grades 7-12. Students come from all economic backgrounds, but a large majority of students come from households who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch. Funding is minimal in the school, and unfortunately, our state legislature reduced our funding even more so this year. Thus, the overall budget is tight as are our classroom budgets.
Students from rural schools can better identify with classic literature driven by adventure and rural issues.
That is why I think my request for funding here will only help and advance my students in our combined study of literacy.
My Project
We produce a video broadcast segment complete with package interviews and school community stories, so having better microphones will be amazing. Students would also like to start a podcast, so having the needed equipment to do so will give more students the opportunity to participate in some type of broadcast experience. That could be a traditional broadcast format, or it could be a radio/audio podcast experience. Students will learn how to video, create and produce content, and edit to published standards. All students will work their way through the process of coming up with an idea storyboarding, creating a shortlist, and design how they want their packs
