Our students live in rural upstate NY, on the border of MA and CT. They are diverse in terms of interests and experiences, but universally wonderful and curious. At over 60% low-income families, our school population is shrinking while the poverty level is rising.
Our students love music!
Our music program has been subject to staffing and program cuts over the last few years, due to a shrinking population and financial challenges, but we’re bouncing back and looking to expand opportunities and experiences for our students!
We’ve all been to events in school auditoriums where the sound was challenging at best. The speech was muddled and hard to understand in the back while way too loud down front! The bass of the music was overwhelming and, although you could see the vocalists lips moving, you couldn’t hear a word. This is especially difficult for people with hearing disabilities or audio stimulus difficulties.
Our students need to be able to clearly hear and understand what is being presented to them in our auditorium, and student presenters and performers should be able to rely on the fact that their voice and message will be clearly heard.
Our rural school district of about 700 students has at its heart an auditorium, which hosts a wide array of concerts, presentations, musicals, plays, talent shows, special events, guest speakers, performers, meetings, etc. The portable PA that we currently use is often hard to hear clearly from much of the auditorium. Whatever message that is being presented is lost to the audience.
Our students need a sound system to provide clear, even coverage to all audience members, at a comfortable volume, whatever the performance or presentation may be. A permanent sound system designed by specialists for our space will provide that for us. The total project cost will be about $20,000 but we can build it on a modular basis, continuing with this set of subwoofer speakers. This approach allows us to fund-raise in smaller bits while making improvements to our existing setup as we go. This project will bring us to about the 3/4 mark and will be the last of the major equipment. Thanks for helping us make the heart of our district better serve our students ears & voices!
