I want to add instruments to a sound center that will provide my students the opportunity to discover many of the sounds in their everyday life. I teach music in a school of 500 middle-class students. The musical equipment will provide hands-on investigation for a whole class or just individual students depending on the needs of the classroom. The instruments would be used by kindergarten through fifth grade, being made available to all classes. The goals of the sound center are to make students aware of sounds produced by instruments and to learn sharing of the instruments. The students would investigate how vibrations occur and be able to group instruments by the affects of desired sounds that are produced. The students would have a recognition of the instruments by sight and sound. The students would not only hear the instruments, but would be instructed on correct playing techniques and provided many hands-on experiences to obtain goals in the music curriculum.
