Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is filled with smiles, collaboration, thinking outside the box, academic rigor, and perseverance through failure as a family, using empathy to accomplish our goals and even our dreams. We are a 100% free lunch, Program Improvement, Title I school with an ethnically and linguistically diverse population. Currently, less than 10% of my class is performing on grade level, but we're slowly making progress in the right direction every day; however, that growth is only limited to the school day since the lack of at home intervention knowledge and linguistic barriers hinder my students' academic development.
I dedicate every day to helping my students discover what their legacy in life will be by trying to give them the same opportunities as students in middle/upper class neighborhoods.
My students are dreamers without a visible path to lead them to a successful and productive life. Most of our parents/guardians do not have a high school education, but I am starting to see a genuine desire for them to become more involved in their child's academic pursuit. As a school, we should capitalize on every opportunity to form rapports and relationships with students and parents. This project allows us to do that.
My Project
My students need their own personal headphones to correctly hear and extract the information presented using our online curriculums, intervention programs, and while taking the grueling California State Standards Assessments. Many students are learning English as a second language. With personal headphones, our school can create a more effective learning environment while also reducing the spread of germs and bacteria caused by sharing the headphones.
Since my students' abilities range from kindergarten to fourth grade, the headphones would allow me to run several different stations simultaneously while establishing a supportive learning setting regardless of their English fluency.
As my students slowly gain confidence and the necessary foundational skills to access subject matter in all subjects, they will begin to form their own personal learning blueprint and positive educational experiences. From there, anything is possible!!!
