My Drama Club students are from a rural area in Western PA. Most of them aspire to continue their education at the post-secondary level. However, within our Social Studies department we only offer a basic level of the Social Sciences. Since 50%+ of our students are on reduced-price or free lunches, many do not have the resources to seek out expanded educational opportunities outside of the public school.
Our Drama Club assists the Arts programs within our community as well as in our community.
We participate in local events such as parades, Christmas Light Up Nights and festivals. This helps provide opportunities for both the students and community to expand their exposure to the Arts.
My Project
Our High School Drama Club is a supplemental program to enhance the Arts Programs in our school. We often participate in community events. Many of the events call for a sound system (microphones, music, etc.) to effectively deliver our program. However since we are in a rural, economically depressed area, most events do not have such a system.
Having our own sound system would allow Drama Club much needed flexibility to provide more enjoyable and more effective delivery of programs.
In the past our Drama Club has produced Talent Shows, Holiday Variety Shows, Christmas Light Up Night Skits, and had floats in local parades throughout the year. The biggest issue has always been the inability to always hear what the students are saying/singing.
