Save our stuff! Extend the "life", appeal, and usefulness of materials with these classroom laminating materials.
My students are young elementary students with learning challenges which include language delays, specific learning disabilities, autism, social/emotional deficits, birth defects, and health issues.
Most spend much of their day in classrooms with grade level peers and part of the day in our resource room.
Students attend a neighborhood school with a high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunches. Our families and our community face many challenges rebuilding after the May 22nd tornado.
My Project
Materials wear out quickly unless they are laminated, even when we are careful using our stuff. Before the tornado, some of the high school students laminated things for us as they developed employment skills, but the tornado destroyed their school and equipment. We want to make some storytelling sets to retell some of our favorite stories and create some stories of our own. Classroom laminating materials will allow us to tell and retell our stories over and over.
We will also need some Velcro for our story pieces, storytelling lapboards for a great place to bring our stories to life, and letters backed with Velcro to make words for our stories. We also have plans for lots of other ways to use laminated materials to practice literacy and math skills.
Supporting this project will provide many opportunities for our little ones to practice important literacy skills.
Telling and retelling stories builds understanding of story structure which makes learning to read and write easier.
