Each day, my Sharp Scholars enter our classroom excited and energized for learning. They know that through perseverance and hard work, they will be ready for college and career.
Although half of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch and many face challenges inside and outside of the school environment, this does not hinder their eagerness to learn.
They inspire me each day with their enthusiasm, and we create a classroom that serves as a safe space where they can take intellectual risks and develop deeper learning.
My Project
When my students can move about the classroom and choose from a variety of seating options, their engagement and focus increase. Recently, I purchased new dining room chairs for our home and brought my old dining room chairs into my classroom. I was amazed at how giddy the students were to use our new "sophisticated" seating option. I am eager to offer these fourth graders even more "grown-up" seating, such as these club chairs.
The tasks these scholars engage in each and every day with complex text is sophisticated work, and they deserve sophisticated seating!
These club chairs will be used in my classroom to provide students with a comfy place to curl up with a good book or a relaxing place to work on their Chromebooks with a lap desk. I believe this project will benefit my students by facilitating greater student engagement and focus, increased time on task, and higher levels of learning as they are empowered with sophisticated seating choices.
