If you walked into my Kindergarten room you might be surprised at what you see. Children are reading quietly in corners around the room and working independently at work stations. Other times we might be up singing and dancing in a whole group activity. We are a beehive of activity!
We live in a community of hard working, supportive families that want the best for their children.
Our school is an International Baccalaureate school that serves students Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a full day kindergarten program and I serve 24 kindergarten students in my classroom.
My Project
Adding a play kitchen to our dramatic play area would give my students an opportunity to learn through play. We have a rigorous academic program but we also need time in our day to develop social skills including collaboration, contribution, and adaptability.
Dramatic play is an integral part of learning in early childhood.
Having a play kitchen area set up in our classroom will offer students a place to socialize with their peers as well as learn how to self-regulate their emotions, learn conflict resolution, use their imaginations, and work on literacy and math skills.
The opportunities for developing collaboration, contribution, and adaptability skills in the play center are endless! Students will talk and share about their experience in the kitchen set you provided and work together to solve problems. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration to this project.
