My students are like all teacher's students - amazing. Our school is located in a small town in south-central Oregon just outside of Klamath Falls.
We have a large population of Native American children.
We are a 100% free or reduced-price lunch school, that also serves many military families. This is a point of pride for me as I am a former Marine. We are a PBIS school and have an amazing, caring staff that all take pride in being Panthers.
For the past 5 years, I taught 5th and 6th grade. This year, I moved to 2nd. In my new classroom was, at best, a skeleton library. The inherited books were in less than stellar shape. At best they were outdated, over-used, and a bit boring.
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” -Marcus Tullius Cicero.
I am looking to add excitement and adventure through a new class library. The Magic Treehouse set is a great way to inspire the desire to read. It lights up the past in a way that makes my kids want to read about the actual events that inspire them. If I have these, as well as the nonfiction library to start a reading revolution in my classroom, I will be able to integrate many subjects into their day. It's akin to hiding vegetables in a casserole. The kids may not know how much they enjoy it until they get the chance to try.
