Help me give my students some more underglaze to use on their ceramic projects. Underglaze is excellent for detail painting on ceramics. An example of a couple techniques using underglaze are Sgraffito and water color effects.

My Students
Our Northern California school has a student population of about 1900 students, and 64% are minorities including African American, Hispanic and Punjabi students. We have a large migrant worker community in our city and school as well.
Our ceramics class is one of the most popular art classes on campus.
I have about 150 students in 5 periods per day. We have a great time in ceramics making all kinds of projects including tiles, flower vases, masks and boxes as well as wheel throwing. I am constantly impressed by the quality of artwork my students make.
My Project
Underglazes are amazing for ceramics. They are like liquid colored clay very similar to slip but with super bright pigments. They can be used on greenware and bisqueware and have a matte finish. They can be covered with clear glaze to shine or remain matte. A couple techniques that I teach my students with underglaze is Sgraffito and water color effects. Underglaze when used on greenware in the leather hard stage is easy to clean up when a mistake is made and this lends itself to being real good for detail painting. It is a fun, beautiful, and useful product.
