This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a large urban high school and is one of the most acclaimed and diverse large high schools in Tennessee. We have been recognized nationally and internationally for our achievements in academics, athletics, and the arts. Named one of "America's Best High Schools" by Newsweek magazine, my school challenges students to succeed academically and in an exhaustive cross-section of extracurricular areas. My school was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education in 1996 and was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School in 2008.
My school has sustained a rich legacy of excellence while fostering an environment in which all children from all backgrounds and experiences can find success and a place of support.
My school is an extremely diverse school that serves students from a wide range of racial, ethnic, religious, geographic, academic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are also a Title I school. We currently have an enrollment of around 2000 9th-12th graders. While the school is located in an affluent suburb, fewer than 5% of the students live in the suburb. The majority of students ride buses or are on transfer.
My Project
This project will provide a variety of items that will benefit my students with their work and their well being! The hard drive will be used to back up work product in case of emergency. The art supplies are for homework, classwork, projects, artwork, and self expression.
We address so many different issues in the counseling office, and having the right tools helps us to meet a variety of needs.
Sometimes students need help with specific tasks such as completing and submitting assignments or applications. Sometimes they are in need of school supplies to do their work. Sometimes they just need to escape. Knowing that they can depend on us to be able to do all of those things increases student success!
