My students need to succeed. This year I want to have them starting off with everything they need. It is stressful to come to school and not have the basics.
My Students are like all teacher's students... Amazing. Our school is located in a small town in south-central Oregon just outside of Klamath Falls, called Chiloquin. We have a large population of Native American children. We are a 100% free or reduced lunch school, that also serves military families. This is a point of pride for me as I am a former Marine. We are a PBIS school and have an amazing, caring staff that take pride in being Chiloquin Panthers.
My Project
Some of my students will come to school with some of their "district mandated" supplies. Many will not. Those that do, will start their year ready to learn; those that don't will start the year with feelings of inadequacy and a ton of stress. I want to even out the playing field. Let those without the means come to school to all the supplies that they need to begin the year.
At times, kids who go without the smallest of things, tend to give up before they walk in on the first day.
I need the chance to get them to, and keep them in, their seats. That's easiest to do so when they feel like they deserve to be there.
By funding this project you will be supplying students with school supplies that are needed to start the year. This includes: pencils, folders, erasers, and other important items that some families in our area cannot afford. These "small things" are extremely important to boost self-esteem that is necessary for a good start. It has been my experience that those "small things" make the biggest difference.
