This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a third grade teacher in a Title I school in a rural area east of Georgia. Funding is limited, but the students are eager and ready to learn.
Our school emphasizes college and career readiness.
Our goal is to have our students graduate high school ready for college or a career.
Our school is also a PBIS school. We focus on Positive Behavior and Intervention Systems.
Our students are learning more than just academics; they are also learning important skills that will help them be successful, not just in the classroom, but also in life outside of the classroom.
My Project
Our resources are limited and we go through so many pencils each week. I am constantly buying pencils for my classroom and because we sharpen so many pencils each day, my pencil sharpener is starting to give out.
My students need pencils!
Other teachers have given me the idea to provide each student with a pencil pouch and a certain number of pencils and a large eraser at the beginning of the first week. Students who still have their pencils and eraser in their pouches at the end of the week will be given a small reward in their pencil pouch. If pencils are missing, the missing pencils will be replaced for the coming week. A new pencil sharpener will help us to keep our pencils sharp and ready for use.
I feel my students would greatly benefit from this and it would prevent us from going through so many pencils each week.
