Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who come into the STEM Lab are eager to learn and explore science standards through hands-on activities.
During our time together, students will investigate different science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through hands-on learning. These students enjoy working hard to investigate new concepts and create links in their knowledge through hands-on learning.
Each week, the students who come into the STEM lab amaze me; they all come from such different backgrounds and converge in our Title I school. They have different experiences and challenges which we blend together to make our STEM lab an environment where each student can learn and grow in their STEM knowledge.
My Project
The Fairy Tales STEM Kits will be used in conjunction with our second grade unit on Fairy Tales. Students are exposed to many different Fairy Tales in class. They are read the story, and then they complete different independent activities for each story.
The Fairy Tales STEM kit would be used the same week as part of a culminating activity called the Fairy Tale Bowl, students enjoy this day and I would like to add an additional component where they solve the different problems that the characters face by using these kits.
Students would be able to work in small groups with other students from their class to solve the given problem faced by the character(s) in the Fairy Tale kit they've been given.
This kit would allow the students to begin to learn how to problem solve just like the characters in each Fairy Tale had to problem solve. They will also have the opportunity to extend the story and see if there is an alternative way to solve the character's problem.
