My classroom population consists of kiddos with special needs that often require unique accommodations throughout their day. Often times they are distracted by uncontrollable environmental factors and they need assistance being directed back to instruction. I want to be able to provide them the materials that will help them take the sensory breaks they need so that they can be a part of the classroom community and materials that will also help them learn in the many unique methods that I am able to provide them.
My Project
My students need items such as body socks, noise canceling headphones, and various fidget tools that will allow them to focus on learning more than being distracted by their disabilities. The desire for sensory input and output are often the culprit for my students' distractions, so the requested materials aid them in quickly fulfilling that need and returning to the group or by using it during instruction. Sensory input or output can be managed throughout the school day with a few items and can be the key to many of my student’s Success!
