My Students

My students are the best! They walk into our classroom excited to learn every day. We are a small diverse public school in the City of Chicago. We have over 500 students in our Pre-K to 8th-grade school. I teach at a school where most of my third and fourth graders are learning English as a second language. Many of them just moved from China recently. They are so eager to learn and be successful, but most students do not come to school with the necessary tools to help motivate that eagerness. That's where math journals comes in place.

My Project

Please help give kids their own space to solve problems and explain their mathematical thinking with a self-checking journal. This will provide lots of independent practice!

Students can record their math work and thinking.

They can be used to record the solutions to math problems, along with the strategy and thought processes used to arrive at the solution

write about learning. At times students may be asked to reflect on their math learning. For example, students may be asked to write about "what you already know about ......" at the beginning of a unit or "what you did today, what your learned, and any questions you have", or "the three most important things you learned in this unit."
