My school provides services to students and individuals (age 2 through age 21) with severe cognitive and physical impairments. This school services individuals with severe disabilities within the district and other local districts who exhibit a need for highly specialized, individualized educational support.
My students work so hard, despite the many challenges they face because of disabilities, disrupted home lives, being homeless or in danger of homelessness, and living in poverty.
Students face additional challenges and special needs including speech and language disorders, ADHD/ADD, physical impairments, cognitive impairments, and health issues like seizure disorders. I have many students in my room who are considered medically fragile and require a 1:1 nurse to be with them all day. In our classroom, we embrace our uniqueness and our multicultural differences! We celebrate every success, no matter how small. I want every child to feel loved, be comfortable in the classroom, and enjoy school and learning.
Our classroom is truly their home away from home. For some students, my classroom is more welcoming and comforting than their home. In our classroom, we will be a family. Everyone will work to do their best and to be their best every day.
My Project
Our upcoming literacy units focus on some great science and social studies skills. There are so many hands-on activities that I can incorporate to make these units and topics fun and engaging for my little learners. One thing I would love to have to accompany this unit are more books. I have included a variety of books that focus on topics like matter and geography. I can easily incorporate these books into our lessons to help students obtain more information and knowledge about these fun topics!
Thank you for increasing the literacy awareness in my learners with fun new books!
