My students need leveled readers. I would like for all my scholars to have " books for me" bags. My scholars sound out unfamiliar words and continue sounding it out until they hear the word.

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My scholars are the youngest students in our K-8 School. Many of them entered kindergarten without having attended pre-school or came from a daycare that focused mainly on social skills as opposed to academics. We have entered into the second trimester and I'm happy to say we have been trying (successfully) to blend letters in order to read. I have many students on different levels. I would like to close the learning gap through reading. My scholars love reading!!!

My Project

I believe when kindergartners are given a solid foundation, they have a greater chance of being successful throughout their educational journey. I want to create a literature-rich environment for my scholars were they all can feel successful. With the leveled readers, I can create "Just for me" bags for my scholars. "Just for me" bags are bags of books at each individual scholars level that they use. The books are changed out periodically as their levels change, and after they have mastered books. Having a variety of books will help foster a love of reading that my scholars have.
