During our science instruction, students use hands-on learning experiences to gain a better understanding of scientific concepts. They enjoy working in small groups and learning together! Research shows that students learn by doing! Therefore, I strive to create a hands-on learning environment.
My students are very eager to learn, and they love when they have the opportunity to get out of their seats and participate in learning activities.
Whether it's creating circuits or building flashlights, they are always putting their minds to work. Inquiry is part of our everyday lives, and I am constantly working to provide them with the skills they need to be successful at school and at home.
My Project
We will be learning about various types of energy in our science classes- electrical and solar energy in particular. I would like the students to have the opportunity to create their own solar ovens and experience solar energy first-hand.
When students enjoy learning, they better remember the material.
I want them to enjoy the learning process and to make memories with them along the way. Science is one of my favorite subjects to teach, and I hope they love the world of inquiry and experimentation as much as I do. Therefore, I want to take their learning a step further by implementing the use of solar ovens. I love watching students use our AMSTI kits in the classroom. They make me very proud by working well together and following directions. I know they will do the same throughout this experience.
The students will use the materials I have requested to create their solar ovens. The pizza box acts as the oven itself, and the tin foil will reflect the sun's light. The plastic wrap acts as a window for the rays to enter through while the black construction paper absorbs the heat. The thermometers, of course, help students to gauge the temperature of their ovens. The students will use the clipboards, markers, and colored pencils to collect data and record in their journals. All of the materials I requested will help make this project successful!
