Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has students with great ambitions. They want to know more about the world and about how their learning applies to the real world. They actively seek knowledge that is relevant to their daily lives.
Our school is a located in a low-income area where over 95% of students are on free or reduced lunch.
The school is very large, with a dedicated staff that consistently overcomes the socioeconomic stress that many of the students face within their daily lives. The school has linkages with the neighborhood more largely to provide an educated populace for the community.
My Project
My students often struggle with the complexity of highly rigorous multiple choice assessments. Finding projects that are engaging is a better way to ensure that they are learning some of the skills and are engaged with the topics. I have requested the Solar Cars and Hovercrafts to teach the students about the basics of circuits for our physics class.
I wanted to teach students about alternative energy sources as they learned about circuits.
Solar power, along with other renewables, are sustainable ways to power the future. I have requested materials which will introduce the students to these alternative forms of energy, while building small devices that we can compete with in class.
I have also requested some classroom supplies such as markers and pencils so they can create an video storyboard about the learning embedded within their projects.
