I am a Speech Therapist working with 75 speech impaired students; 25 of my students are Katrina evacuees. I have found that they respond to interactive learning programs because they are visual and they get immediate feedback on their responses; with the immediate feedback they are able to see their errors and make the corrections on the program and they do not internalized the incorrect information. The ability to produce grammatically correct sentences, identify the appropriate parts of speech, learning to ask/answer questions through a visual interactive lesson will be invaluable to their learning and to their ability to carryover the lesson to their classrooms.
My students feel that they are behind their peers because they realize they have not had the same type of learning opportunities. They enjoy working on the computer and comment on how working on the computer has helped to to learn some lessons that they have struggled with in the classroom.
