My Students
Our school is filled with brilliant students that are not always afforded the opportunity to shine. Our school is a Title I school located in a small rural town in Alabama whose economy was once fueled by the textile mills.
100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite the economic challenges that our students have, they continue to work hard and persevere. Our parents, teachers, and members of the community all work together and do what they can, sometimes it's just not enough.
My Project
Our high school has recently started a girls softball program. While our girls are very athletic, softball is a new sport for many of the girls and they lack the fundamental skills for playing the sport. Our high school softball team has 20 girls who have less than 4 years of playing experience.
Girls need opportunities to participate in sports and stay fit.
We need equipment so that we can start a youth softball club. We would like to start preparing the girls at a younger age so that they can later compete at the high school level. The bats and training equipment such as the tee and weighted balls will be used by elementary girls wishing to play softball and will be used by our high school softball team.
