Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Working at my school presents a challenge everyday, not only for me, but also for the students I work with. Attending school in the South Bronx isn't easy. The students in my school often stay out on the streets for a long duration of the day because they don't want to be home due to boredom, or a hardship household. The school does offer after school programs but not all students are interested. Many girls who attend the school have no interest in most of these programs. But those same girls want something that will only be for them. A program that will keep them busy and test them physically and mentally so they can grow. That is where softball comes in. Having an all girl team will bring these girls together and unite them as one.
All of these girls have talent and feel the need to prove themselves.
The sight of the happy faces these girls have had when the idea of bringing a softball team to the school for them is priceless. Working for a school with students like these, has made my career something more than a job I wake up in the morning everyday for.
My Project
These equipment will help our girls learn the game better. They will also be able to use the materials during games and practices. These materials are needed for the sole purpose to protect our girls on the field, and ease up on their bodies during games and practices. Most softballs are too hard and these are league official and we will need them in order to play games. The catchers equipment will be the right size to protect the body of our players on the field so no one will get hurt in the process either in a game or practice.
