My students need seating options/attachments for comfort to do their best work rather than having to feel like they are going to crawl out of their own skin.
My students are the sunshine in the day! We are known as “The Beach School”, but it’s not how people envision it. All of my students do not go home to waterfront homes or even oceanfront condos. Instead some of my students wait to find out which motel their parents had to move to because the rate was the lowest for the week or even the day. Or I have several who share a tiny trailer with 5, 6, or even more family members! However, there is one thing that all of my students have in common. The will and desire to succeed and please their teacher! A love for life and a passion for learning!
My priority is to provide a comfortable, safe, engaging, and invigorating learning environment each and every day.
I want to ensure that in the future, I am not reading "about" my students, but I am reading something BY one of them.
My Project
These bouncy bands will be used around the chair bases at the back table which is used for small groups. So many children are struggling readers which makes them nervous innately and having a way to quietly and privately release that built up tension would do wonders for their nerves. Then there are the children that have trouble managing their impulses and these bands would allow them to quietly move without disrupting their peers in an environment that sitting still for a length of time is required. The soft seats will be used as a rotation for the students that are using the old style, rigid, hard-backed school chairs. These will provide comfort for students, while reducing their desire to constantly move around and get up.
The bouncy bands and soft seats will provide a way for my students to thrive in an environment that often shuts them down.
